 yehh i know.  it's the perennial problem.

 yep, in a word.

 it doesn't matter what you do, it will always cost more.  one
possibility is a custom connector that has flying leads to the PCB,
and attaches to the casework not the PCB.  another is a small PCB with
flying leads.

 but either way you are still looking at disassembly or warranty
replacement (most people in mass-volume would simply take a damaged
unit back to the shop even if it was their own fault, claiming
otherwise, that the unit "should have survived being dropped i.e. is
not fit for purpose if it couldn't survive being dropped").
