moving forward from the EOMA-68 standard, which has a maximum limit of
around 3.5 watts, we felt that a larger more power-intensive standard
should be created, and have begun a preliminary draft:
http://elinux.org/Embedded_Open_Modular_Architecture/EOMA-200
as with all EOMA standards, there are NO and there will never be ANY
optional pins. to compensate for differences in CPUs, SoCs and
designs however, the front-face of the module is permitted to have any
number connectors that will fit into the two slots - 30mm x 14mm and
65mm x 14mm.
the standard includes:
* HDMI
* 24-pin RGB/TTL
* Gigabit Ethernet
* SATA-III
* 4-lane PCI Express
* 3 USB3s, 1 USB2 and 1 USB-OTG
* 2 8-bit SD/MMC
* 24 pins GPIO
* 2 UARTS (1 with CTS/RTS)
* SPI
* 2 I2C
* I2S (8 lines for AC97 audio)
* up to 30 Watts of power, on eight 5.0V lines and six 3.3V lines (max
of 0.5A on each pin)
any other functionality required can be added on the front-facing part
of the module: up to 5 Ethernet ports, up to 10 USB2/3 ports, up to 4
eSATA ports, SP/DIF, Firewire, DisplayPort, MIPI Port, HDMI, DVI, WIFI
antenna, 3G antenna - anything.
the following standards are all down-level negotiable, meaning that
any SoC of CPU not providing the full functionality can at least
provide part functionality:
* Gigabit Ethernet (down to 100 and 10mb/sec)
* USB3 (down to USB2 and USB 1.1)
* SATA-III (down to SATA-III and SATA-1)
* SD/MMC (down to 4-bit and down to 1-bit)
* I2S (down to 5 lines)
* PCI Express (down to 2x and down to 1x)
* HDMI (down to DVI)
thoughts and feedback greatly appreciated.
