I am thinking of making anything modular, but have to check this with
the chip manufacturers.
Currently I do not know, how to configure one of the PCIe 4x ports to
support one 4x and four 1x On-Board.
I mean, I configure ony PCIe port, to support 4 Mini-PCIe cards and
design the PCB to have the cards in direction front of the PC.
the second PCIe 4x I will place it on a expansion board where I like to
have a PCIe 4x Riser-Slot, BUT it must be build to block the 4 Mini-PCIe
cards. Which mean, you can have only one 4x or four 1x.
Something like:
+------+------+-+------+-+------+--------+--------------------+
| | | | | | | | | |
| +-+ | | | | | | | | |
| |P| |PCIe 5| |PCIe 6| |PCIe 7| |PCIe 8| |

| |e| | | | | | | | | |
| | | +======+ +======+ +======+ +======+ |
| |4| |

| +======+ +======+ +======+ +======+ |card |
| | | | | | | | | +-----+

| |PCIe 1| |PCIe 2| |PCIe 3| |PCIe 4| 4xGigaEth 24V |

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
+--+------+-+------+-+------+-+------+-+--+-+--+--+--+--+-+-+-+
Unfortunately this PIG will be in total bigger as a Mini-ITX (170x170mm)
but is the design, I like to use in my PanelPC.
What do you think?
