Just to make that clear what a GPL violation means: it will be illegal to
sell the product in a country where the GPL is recognised; this will
reduce sales of the product - which is a pity. Sale of the hardware could
make you a lot of money.

You got the Linux kernel for free because of the GPL.
All that we are asking is that you return your modifications for free as required by the GPL.
