Could you possibly bump up the resolution to 720p and make it a 3G tablet as well? I feel this would make it awesome since there aren't many 3G tablets these days (majority are WiFi only, and the iPads with SIM slots cost a tonne)

allen: i found from the exploration of developing the 7in tablet a couple of years ago that it's really rather tricky to make. it's absolutely critical to get the exact matching capacitive panel and LCD, where the connectors come out in *exactly* the right place, and the components on the back of the LCD are also in *exactly* the right place to not interfere with (hit) other components, where 0.5mm clearance is really, *really* important...
... and you then have to arrange for exactly the right size of battery...
it's hellishly complicated in other words.
so. let me put it this way. if you'd like to see such a product exist, help find the 720p LCD and the associated capacitive panel (with matching sizes: no point having a viewport that doesn't match the LCD). do a google search, and look on taobao, aliexpress and so on. you want parts that are commonly available (not a special-order-item, do not require copyright on the decal of the capacitive panel, do not require a MOQ of say 1,000 pieces and so on). samples should be easy to get. pricing in QTY 250 and 1k should not be insane.
you will also need to make sure that the datasheets are available, publicly, and do not require NDAs, and also that there is a linux kernel driver for the capacitive panel driver IC (which should be I2C not SPI or USB).
be prepared for this process to take at least eight to twenty weeks, so you'll need to be very very patient.
i already have a source for the 3G module, the SEW291, so that's taken care of.

Have you talked to the chalkboard electronics guys? They told me they'd do a custom spin of their controller board (to accept LVDS, didn't ask about TTL at the time) for MoQ 100. There are definitely Linux drivers for their controller and such.

we don't need a driver board that does LVDS (because it would need to be adapted and incorporated into the tablet's PCB... and i already have circuits to do that so don't need *their* driver board, especially given that the circuits that i already have already *have* RGB/TTL to LVDS conversion, plus the backlight driver circuits, etc. etc. etc. etc.)
what's needed is the capacitive panel Part Number and the LCD part number... which can be found here:

ok so that specific part number 80701-0A4321B does not exist on the internet but google "capacitive 80701" turns up some alternative hits.
the innolux part, the datasheet needs to be found.
