Well, design-wise it doesn't look as good either... I must say the
version on the Crowd Supply page looks amazing, and this one is
comparatively plain. But still much better than just a laser-cut box,
and if the layered design wasn't feasible at the scale it needed to
be, there's only so much you can do about that.

Plus this is much less wasteful of materials - this looks like
something you could cut on a 12"x12" sheet of plywood, whereas the
previous design required much more (because you couldn't really use
the leftover pieces from cutting the inner layers).
