ok, next thing i decided to short out D1 _and_ R2, then power off of
both a 5.0V USB _and_ the USB-OTG just in case it was a power issue.
also i got some 103 capacitors from maplins (big thank you to brad of
maplin's portsmouth, you were really helpful!) and did what chris did.
then i simply took the SATA drive out and plugged it back in, out in,
out in, didn't shake it all about - and i got a ton of errors on the
console.
this is progress!
