Well, since the Berne Convention resulted in most countries not needing
formal copyright notices, I suspect (although IANAL, so this is not
legal advice) that a broken copyright notice makes very little
difference to the copyright status of a work.
Also, putting someone else's name on a copyright statement seems very
unlikely to count as performing a proper copyright assignment.
Creating an entity of the same name to match a copyright notice after
the event really shouldn't cut any ice with anyone, but as I said IANAL.
