 there will *never* be an "instead of".  EOMA-68 is not an "exclusive"
project to one specific CPU - it is not a standard that is even
specific to CPUs *at all* [1] [2]

 so over the next ten years, cards plural will be created.  some of
those will go end-of-life naturally as their components age.
