Hi,
Just to clarify, the situation is not that grave in many places in the EU.
Here in Finland, if you order something from outside the EU that's over the VAT limit, they will hold it in the local customs office and send you a notice to pick it up there.
You go there with your receipt, pay the VAT, and get the package. It all works very smoothly, there is no delay compared to getting it from the post office (the notice would reach you the same day in either case).
Sure it's an additional step compared to buying from a local store, but it's not such a huge inconvenience when compared to buying from a web store inside the EU.
