What?

There is offsets on the SD card that u-boot stuff gets installed into.
Completely outside any filesystem.

There is an UBOOT_HACK variable in that script, but that's merely to use
the u-boot version bundled in the ubuntu image instead of compiling one
from source. This got there due to the SPL loader being broken for some
time.
