i had something in mind more like this:

that way it cannot go into the standard legacy socket, but it's
possible to still use the standard rails.
however, given the precautions over missing the power pins (making
them match up with safe pins), this may be unnecessary to expand the
width.

i appear to have accidentally matched the 5V pins up with A4, A1,
RESET and "Battery Detect" :)
i don't see a problem with that.
the reason for specifying the precise size of the end part as 7mm
height and 12mm depth (i think it was, i.e a card length of exactly
85+12mm) is so that you know that card will always always fit flush
into any chassis.
of course, RF antenna are free to stick out a bit further.
