I built 2.6.36 from /allwinner/linux-2.6.36
For that particular 'experiment' I didn't use a rootfs. I figured as
long as the kernel was able to boot it would either turn on the LCD via
kms or write some logs to the sdcard.
I also tried using various nightly images from
dl.linux-sunxi.org/nightly
For those I used u-boot, kernel and rootfs from the image.
I may also try the wheezy image here:

Is there a way to connect to the serial port via usb? Similar to adb?
