ok, the main blocker of success was the fact that the ext3 (whatever)
partition on /dev/mmcblk0p2 is _not_ being formatted to be resizeable
by resize2fs.
soo, what i'm going to try next, given the success of re-flashing
setting things back to ground zero is very simple: dd the entire 2gb
NAND flash over to another machine, jig about with it and then dd it
back again. doing that, live, i know, is pretty stoopid.
the other alternative to consider is creating a ram disk, putting a
tiny rootfs environment in it and then pivot_rooting into it.
the absolutely great thing to do would be to make that rootfs be the
same contents as the d-i netboot installer... but i'll leave that to
frans :)
