 it'll overwrite the whole rootfs.

anyone wishing to try this i recommend first downloading the existing
"firmware" and just using that to replace the existing OS.
http://lkcl.net/arm_systems/CT-PC89E/ct-pc89e-firmware.tgz and unpack
the contents onto a single-partition FAT formatted SD card (128mb or
greater is sufficient0

 then go for something different.

if you then use the rootfs_small.tgz i created then you will see
lines of increasing length and slightly varying colour in the top
right-hand corner, as echo 11 > /dev/fb0 or echo 22222222 > /dev/fb0
is performed by various modifications i made. if you get a cyan line
approx 15mm long, that means that /etc/init.d/networking is being run,
and you stand a good chance that DHCP and eth0 will come up.

but, even having _any_ pixels in the top left corner is a good sign:
it means that /sbin/init got executed, and /etc/init.d/rcS got
executed.
