 because it's what the client asked for, and had surveys done and
people found them to be acceptable.

 they are costly: the question is whether there are people who are
prepared to pay that extra cost, and right now the answer to that
question appears to be "no".

 on the other hand it may change in the future.  i bloody well hope so
because personally i can't stand less than 1024x768 :)
