Peter,
When you do get to play with it again, I would welcome your report
whether the serial-usb converter from Tom works reliably for you, and
if so, what serial comms app you are using.

For me, it keeps hanging. I tried Gtkterm, Cutecom and microcom, same
problem. So, I think the problem is elsewhere.

Note, one thing I noticed, the Mele will not power-off when the
converter is plugged into my laptop usb socket. That is strange hey?
I don't have the power line connected (that would be asking for
trouble!), just gnd, tx and rx.
