a** kicking do not help. It only closes all doors.

the only way to resolve this in a workable manner is to get them (the
right managers) to understand what the GPL license is about.

But it's hard to make any convincing arguments under the conditions
- Major market is China where no one cares as long as it's cheap.
- Most interesting things are undocumented or at least not in the
documentation given out, which makes a very big threshold for any
outsider to contribute in any significant part of the source.
