Great idea Iain.  I used a very similar approach to reverse engineer the audio/video decoder of a Sigma Designs SoC.  They used a proprietary user-space API called rua/dcc to drive their hardware.  Are there any symbols in any of the Linux or Android cedarx libs that we could use to log function names that generate each of those register/memory access patterns?  Maybe use ldd to see what their Android player is using and wrap those functions.
