I commented out the line:

#define CONFIG_FT5X0X_MULTITOUCH

in:

drivers/input/touchscreen/ft5x_ts.h

After rebuilding and installing the new kernel/modules, I booted up and
loaded the module ft5x_ts. Sure enough the touchscreen is working! 

Now I just need to figure out how to do a 'right click' from the touch
screen.
