That'll do but it means wearing out the SD card a bit. Much better to 
tar it up somewhere, mkfs it with discard, and then untar it back. Or 
you could you use that tar ball then and let the recipient do the mkfs 
part on their own SD card. Let's face it, the people hacking away on 
this are going to be comfortable with something as basic as making the 
file system and extracting the tar ball. No need to spoon feed the dd 
image, especially since most card models have a slightly different size 
anyway, and the 4GB dd image won't necessarily fit on all 4GB SD cards.
