News from the Battle-front of May Heydays Dear Attendees to May Heydays 2024, Two important updates to pass on: 1. The school has closed the playing fields due to wet weather; campers have already been told that only tents will be allowed on the field. Caravans and campervans will have to be put on hard-standing inside and outside the tennis court, and in the Quad. Small campervans will likely be sent further down Four Pools Road to another parking area (it will be signed GATE THREE). This means the parking for cars will be confined to spacings left between the ‘vans, the centre of the tennis court, the front car park and to the centre of the Quad (in the Quad, please leave a clear route for pedestrians to cross over between English and Humanities block)s. After that, use GATE THREE for the small car park further down the road, or past that there is an un-restricted non-residential road on the left, Four Pools Lane. Then it will be Four Pools Road itself, which is unrestricted. School staff and 6th formers will be around Friday night to help with parking – do please follow their directions (even if it disagrees with what I have said!). 2. The caterer, Annie, will allow for 20 extra servings over her pre-booking numbers of the main meals, available on a first come basis. We do ask you to help her by pre-booking your mains today or tomorrow. You pay on collection. She also would like all breakfasts to be pre-booked the day before – which can be done on-site. Remember this is a first time for The Bulls Head Bakers; we hope next year will be easier once an idea has been gained of the level of café usage. Despite all these minor things that crop up when trying to run a folkdance festival, we are really looking forward to our 3rd MHD at Evesham – and look forward to greeting both familiar faces and our many newcomers. Bonus points if you remember to bring re-usable water bottles, ditto drink cups – and a torch might not be a bad idea! MHD '24 catering - pre-booking details

Dear 2024 Attendees The caterer Annie has now indicated that she can be emailed with your orders for Friday night and for as many subsequent meals as you wish - in order to minimise waste, which we can all understand - but ordering on site before, say, the midday and evening meals is also acceptable. Annie Feavyour: thebullsheadbakers(a)gmail.com She has not put a deadline for receipt, but I suggest by Wednesday 1st May evening to book your choices for Friday dinner, to help with her planning. The menu will now be put online; it has not been altered since first received – though fruit will also be available for those thinking puds but watching their waistlines! Happy eating! MHD Team

MHD '24 cafe menu

Dear Attendees Herewith the initial menu provided by our sole caterers this year, Annie and Wies of The Bulls Head Bakers. We came across them at the pop-up dance festival at Alcester last autumn, and thought them to be just what we needed. Do give Annie and Wies your custom, support and feedback in their first year with us. The menu will be subject to some minor changes and the final version will be put on the website. The caterer will have been advised on numbers of VG, Vegan and GF and other dietary requirments (no names given), but we cannot guarantee all specific needs will be met. There will be a pre-order system for Friday night, details to be confirmed; pre-orders will be served first with payment on collection (by cash, card or phone, all being well). Subsequent days, we recommend meals be ordered during the day, prior to the actual meal-time, to cut down waiting times. Performers and stewards on duty after their meals can, if needed,'jump the queue' for their pre-booked meals. There will be a drinks station during break times outside the Small Hall in Humanities block, with the cafe drinks station being open all the time. We have sourced crockey and cutlery for the cafe, whether sufficient remains to be seen, depending on actual footfall, obviously an unknown quantity. We suggest you do bring your own water-bottles and re-usable cups/mugs. We all, MHD aand caterers, will be very busy before the festival, so we do ask that you wait until the event if you have any food-relte queries. See you all there! Monty Crook

MHD '25 T shirts

Dear MHD'24 Attendees In previous years a few attendees have asked to buy the T-shirts we have printed one year to advertise the next year's festival. We did not put that option on this year's booking form, but as I am about to order in time for the festival I thought to offer you the chance to buy now. (We do not get them on spec hoping to sell them .... just to order). We will hand them out from the festival office on the Sunday. The shirts are soft cotton and come in (F)emale and (M)ale versions, in sizes S, M, L, XL and XXL. This year's will be green print on white shirts, similar to the '24 shirts but with a darker green. We sell at cost, anticipated to be about £10. If anyone would like one, please send me an email a.s.ap. with style and size, and I will add to the order; once I know the unit cost (which depends on numbers), I will let purchasers know and ask that you pay in advance by bank transfer. MHD lost property and recovering properly

Hello All Just 2 lost property items, an XL Gap 2-tone-red long sleeved light weight sweater (shirt?; and a light brown thin quilted UNIQLO gilet (?). As to recovering, that is the 2 couples who suffered sickness and diarrhea on Monday/Tuesday mornings; they were staying at the Premier Inn and suspected food poisoning there, but also used the cafe at the school. It would be good to know if anyone else suffered so (or preferably, didn't) and what they ate where. We ought to let those outlets know if it was more widespread. Thanks Monty

You can do it by reply to this mail, by email to Mecki (director(a)mayheydays.org.uk) or putting it straight on the the website if you are happy for it to be public. There is also a link on the site feedback page (https://mayheydays.org.uk/feedback.php) for a private submission. Last minute news - with attachment

Whoops, sorry, missed off menu and wrong cafe closing time on Friday (just can't get the staff these days....) The caterers have supplied a detailed menu today. It is attached and is on the website. They will be open at 5.30 - 7pm on Friday and close at 2pm on Monday, with usual opening times of 8am to 7pm. They would prefer no tables to be in the immediate café area, so we will use the Large Hall, the corridor which runs past the Festival Office, and some space which the school will make available in the Science Block - across the way from the exit past the Office. If the weather allows we will have some tables outside. The café will supply the hot drinks in the English (café) block, we will supply and run that in Humanities (for which we have some mugs, but do bring your own if you can). Campers are asked not to arrive too early, 6pm on would be best for us, but 5.30pm at the earliest. It is expected that the school will ask vehicles be moved off the fields after set up onto some hard standing behind the Sports Hall. The good news is that the last of the hassle seems to be over and we are looking forward to lighting the blue touch-paper! Enjoy your dancing! The May Heydays Team

Different News about the Catering Arrangements

Hi Everyone, Sorry to be in touch again so soon after our previous mail (which most of you should have received) but there is a last minute change of plan from the caterers. While they are still willing to run the event, they will not now have enough staff to offer the cooked meals they had planned to do. So, what we will have is this: sandwiches, jackets potatoes, savouries such as sausage/vegan roll, quiches and salad bowls and different cakes, bakes and drinks. We are very sorry about the reduced menu but there is no chance that we can find another caterer with less than 10 days' notice! If you have already booked and paid for meals, we are waiting to hear from Daniela how she will handle refunds. It will be sorted one way or another, just bear with her for a little while. So, there is now no need to pre-order (that's the good news), and there will be 'normal' service at the food counter. Let's go with the flow and be grateful for what we will have. May Heydays essential pre-festival info

Dear Festival Goers, Most importantly, we can confirm that we have a new caterer: Delicious Café - Deli -Bistro from Evesham with husband and wife team Chef Cleme and Daniela. There will be separate food serveries for snacks (including jacket potatoes – see attached draft menu) but all other cooked meals will need to be pre-ordered 24 hours in advance on the café’s dedicated webpage - to ensure availability whilst avoiding waste. (For example, this means, book Wednesday 26th for dinner on Friday 28th). We strongly advise doing so now, for all your planned meals - while it is in your mind. Do read the further information on the Food page of the MHD website - see https://mayheydays.org.uk/food.html, before going to the café link: https://delicious-cafe.co.uk/may-heydays-festival-food/. So, please order as soon as you can; after ordering/paying, you will receive an email with vouchers to bring to the café on the day. We have listened to last years' feedback and will have 2 drinks stations (in the English and Humanities blocks) for hot drinks run on an honesty basis (volunteer tea-pourers and biscuit-dispensers always welcome). Please bring your own re-usable mug and a water bottle! There will be a cold water dispenser to the left of the cafe food counter (but absolutely no attendee is allowed in the cafe...).. Please fill your bottles up at times when there isn't a queue waiting to be served. Tell your friends that Weekend and day/evening ticket purchases for MHD 2023, via Agency, email or post, will be accepted up to 21st April. Steward applications are now closed. The programme may still be subject to minor changes. Copies will be displayed at five strategic places in the school. If needed, please print your own from the website. We would like everyone to be aware that we are legally required to allow assistance dogs inside the venue. So, if you have an allergy or any other issues with dogs, please talk to a steward or the venue manager to help resolve difficulties. Last year, keeping the halls ventilated was quite a challenge. Some people wanted MORE ventilation, others found it too much (including some chilled musicians). Having discussed it with the school, we will facilitate as much ventilation as possible within the legal and practical restraints given. Please find a steward or the venue manager, if you have an issue with the arrangements, they will know what is permissible/ practicable. Please don't change ventilation arrangements yourself. Covid: We will supply hand-sanitiser as left over from last year but you are strongly advised to bring your own (and masks if you wish). The school has tested CO2 monitors and found them totally unreliable, so please don't expect to see them. Directions to the site are on the website; send us a mail if you need more info. Parking will be mostly as for last year; school staff or stewards will assist at the point of entry: - Tents/campervans/caravans on the playing fields (in unduly wet weather you may be asked once set up to move cars from the fields to reserve parking places). - Pre-booked disabled campers in the 'Quad' near the Maths block. - Staff (cars/campers) can be in front of the tennis court (spaces limited). - Other cars should be in the tennis court (until full) and then in parking just inside the main gates (this area is now within the fencing). The school has improved the security of the site with new fencing, but remember to play safe and leave no valuables in tents, unlocked vehicles/vans or indoor camping rooms (for which we cannot provide keys). Also, ALL attendees are required to display their tickets at all times; these will be provided on lanyards, so if you prefer pin-on ticket holders, please bring your own. Yes, feel free to wear posh frocks but display of tickets is still a must! Finally: have fun, be inclusive and if any problems arise let a steward or staff member know straight away; unreported issues are not on our radar!
