I'm more of a desktop user these days but even I can see the benefits of
a modular laptop design. It was something highlighted to me during my recent
reboot of my old laptop:

One thing that is highlighted very early on the EOMA68 campaign page is the
cost of getting a laptop fixed. Part of that is the need to return to a
single vendor or support company for repairs, especially when a laptop is
within the warranty period.
It's not always the case that you get everything fixed at zero cost under
warranty, and there are always time costs and secondary expenses associated
with shipping a broken product back to the vendor.
Anyway, I just thought it would be interesting to show the inside of a laptop
that probably blows through the EOMA-68 laptop's power budget several times
over - just check out that cooling solution! ;-)

This is what I understand about the production phase that follows this fundraising phase. Is the manufacturing to be done in Taiwan?
Assuming all goes to plan, Luke will be temporarily relocating to Taiwan. It is a good idea to be onsite in manufacturer facilities to manage risks and challenges - make sure no mistakes are made, avoid fraud, ensure openness and so on.
There was a Bunnie Huang reference recently explaining being onsite, but I couldn’t find it. I did find this quote in Bunnie’s blog.
'this is the advantage of being in China during production — you can fix problems like this within the hour, before they become really serious issues'
It all sounds like exciting International business. I’d like to see a daily blog about EOMA68 adventures in Taiwan. Perhaps a few lines a day, something like the Joey Hess git-annex blog. Then I could pretend I am joining in on the adventure.
How about that? Would that work?
Thanks, Nick

with some very rough costs on shipping and testing, and assuming $10k
NREs, there's about $6k spare at the moment. that'll be "living in
taiwan" costs (where i wouldn't need to be paying rent) and the $10k
includes "getting to taiwan".
it's *just* doable... barely. which is why we need to raise more.

favour to ask of people, could you possibly take a look here and
help answer some of these
https://bbs.boingboing.net/t/a-free-open-computer-on-a-card-that-you-swap-i…
my comments were accidetntally deleted because their auto-spam-bot got
over-aggressive (new account, lots of helpful URLs for people when
answering their questions) but then someone also "flagged" one of my
responses and the staff didn't check.
.. oops :)
anyway i'm waiting for them to restore the account but the timer's
ticking down, and i'm currently dealing with a high temperature.
could people please chip in and answer some of the queries, c/f the
archives here?
thx.

Hallo Luke,
surely you know the ARM Cortex-A15. I would like the drawbacks of the PYRA.
Can you please, if you have the time, tell me something about it. Especially
the GPU, are there any gpl violations of the producers of the Cortex A15 and
why you did not choose it for the eoma68. I do not find it in your comparison
of the processors.
Many thanks!

Hello,
what repositories will be used for the Parabola GNU/Linux-libre operating
system on the EOMA68?
If you have no time for answering my question, please let me know.
