dr schaller, hi, [if you'd like to reply to arm-netbook please do subscribe]

i just saw the openphoenux 7004 tablet:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/fsuk-manchester/2012-10/msg00012.html

i notice you say "it'll be expensive because of using a screen from sharp".

if you use the HV070WS01-100 it's a 1024x600 IPS quality screen that you *should* be able to get for $18 in 10k volumes, FOB from china. also there's also a touchpanel company that apparently does touchscreens including an FT5306 IC for around $7. here's an example:

http://www.xcl.so/productslist.asp?sendid=24

i've spent several months - no that's a lie it's been almost a year - researching components (thank you to everyone here on arm-netbooks who's helped out over that time) and have deliberately kept them as low-cost and mass-volume as possible. the BOM including a $30 Allwinner A10 CPU Card comes to around $85.

we are just about to go ahead with this tablet as a prototype, i've done the schematics, negotiated with a designer and we should be giving them a downpayment some time next week.

once again i know you weren't keen when we spoke a year ago on the EOMA-68 concept (because someone in china might steal your design) - if on the basis of the above you change your mind and for example keep hold of the CPU Card (manufactured by PCB manufacturers that you trust) then you are most welcome at any time to join in the EOMA-68 initiative.

it would save you an awful lot of hassle *plus* i know that there would be a ton of people who would be very very excited to be able to upgrade their tablets [and other products when they happen] to 3G just by swapping out the card.
