I also had that error on self-compiled CM9, run on 3.0.31+ kernel.

The fix was easy: just replace all Mali/EGL stuff in /system/lib
by those in Qware 4.0.3 leaked sources:

libMali.so
libUMP.so
egl/libEGL_mali.so
egl/libGLESv1_CM_mali.so
egl/libGLESv2_mali.so

and it will boot and work ;-)
