[Arm-netbook] Mele A1000: SATA HD does not work

Guys,
I am running the Ubuntu Lucid with 3.0.8+ kernel from SD image that
Tom uploaded, on the Mele A1000.

Today I purchased a SATA laptop hard drive, however it is not
recognised. Nothing, total non-recognition of presence of the drive.

Is this a known issue with the 3.0.8+ kernel?

Or, is there a kernel driver that should have been loaded?

Does SATA work with the older 2.6.36 kernel?
